Crazy Horse - Feb. 5

As we were motoring through the night I kept picking up two dots on the radar which I couldn't identify. Bill and Matt kept telling me they were storm clouds. But the dots persisted. I figured they were some sailors from the World ARC and turns out I was right. We have Brown-Eyed Girl and Basia in front of us about 6 miles. Crazy Horse finally managed to catch up with the fleet. Now I think she has the barn firmly within her sights and is ready to get there and get some rest. This wind has certainly been a struggle for us all to keep moving. This has been a long leg from Capetown to Salvador and we will all be ready to rest , relax and see the sights.

Today the winds should improve and we plan to put up Joshua as soon as Matt wakes up. It would be nice to have a couple of days of good sailing before we get into port. The winds are E ,ESE at about 8-15kts. That should be enough to hold the spinnaker and save on fuel. We have 167 miles to go so we should have enough fuel as well.

We plan on getting in to port tomorrow, Sunday, along with Chessie, Brown-Eyed Girl, and Basia. There may be some others too but I don't know who they might be. Tzigane and Tucanon should be getting in today. I haven't heard from Jim on OJ yet today but their wind may be improving as well and that might speed them along to get in sooner.

We all have said on Crazy Horse that we just can't imagine how sailors kept their patience and sanity waiting for the wind to come up for days at a time without any engine. Guess they got used to it and coped. Joshua Slocum was one of them and he did it single-handed. So now Matt is up drinking coffee and I must get ready to put up Joshua with the rest of the crew.
