Welcome to ‘Vinny the Vane’. Our fourth crew member. He (yes Vinny is a he, cos Bev says so) has proved invaluable so far on this passage.
Vinny is a mechanical extra rudder connected to a vane that follows the wind. Perfect for downwind sailing. Pretty handy is that Vinny doesn’t use electricity which saves on our 12v power. He’s also ready to step up as a spare and independent rudder if there’s a problem.
He can be a bit finicky to set and tends to wander a little as if on the way home from the pub. But we wouldn’t be without him.
