Free Spirit - Anticipation was in the air.

The mood was upbeat and almost festive, as we hunkered down for our last night of the passage Monday night. A dinner of beef bourgignone on a bed of mashed potatoes followed by brownies will just have to do. We started out motor sailing, then saw that the fuel gauge on the remaining fuel tank was reading lower than it should have been. Do we have a fuel problem? Mike quickly figured out that by switching the fuel return from one tank to the other while leaving the fuel intake set on the current tank, we could in essence siphon the fuel into the tank with the reliable gauge. Worked like a charm and sure enough, we had a bad gauge but ample fuel.

In the early hours of the morning, we began to see the far off glow of lights from Tortola and St Thomas beaconing us on. The winds picked up and the waves were crashing over the boat, and on we went. We pulled in to Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola, BVI at 0800. Mia, from the Caribbean 1500 staff was there to greet us, rum punch in hand for all. In the end, we persevered, overcame adversity, and safely made it through the first leg of our big adventure! We have many to thank for helping to make our dream a reality, from our families and friends back home, to a terrific crew who kept us going along the way. Thank you all.
