Leviathan II - log day 2 - leaving Plymouth
It was an energetic start with all the boats rounding
up on the starting line, smiles reaching from ear to ear, everyone at the ready
and eager to boom ahead. 5…4…3…2…1, and we were off with a heave of the spinaker, full of wind. For a
moment there was a battle between the Belgians, with Idefix and ourselves creeping
closer and closer to the front, but with the wind in our favour, and a little
luck, we were able to take the lead of the fleet. Looking back at the other
boats was an incredible show, a sea of huge, bright spinakers.
However, after leaving Plymouth Sound, the wind fell flat, causing us to drift
behind and some boats to use their engines, everyone bobbing in the water like
rubber ducks in a bath tub. That first day went by slow, by evening we looked back
and could still see the lights of the Mayflower Marina, not the most
encouraging feeling for the days ahead. When heads hit to pillows, we hoped for
better conditions in the morning.
