World ARC Office Open for Arrivals

The World ARC office in Hiva Oa opened today, ready to receive the 29 yachts completing Leg 3 of the Rally. The first boat, GUNVOR XL is expected to arrive this evening having completed the 2,900 Nm passage in less than 15 ½ days. It will then be a busy week of arrivals as the remainder of the fleet complete the longest leg of the World ARC route.

Overall wind conditions have been good but not exceptional. The fleet have all experienced good trade wind conditions but then much lighter winds during the latter part of the trip which will continue for the next week. This will probably mean a few more days at sea or several hours motoring. But during all of these favourable and more testing conditions, the pleasant life of long distance passage making has continued; maintaining a watch system, resting, reading, fishing, cooking, baking and for some younger crews, studying.

On arrival in Hiva Oa, the yachts and crews will be cleared into French Polynesia and then the crews will be able to start exploring ashore. The island of Hiva Oa, like the rest of the Marquesas Islands and indeed French Polynesia, have a lot to offer.
