Xenial - Day 4 - Clubs

Today we had some good constant winds and made steady progress towards Cape Verde - in the early hours of the morning we passed the half way mark towards Mindelo. With less proper sailing to occupy us, today a number of our onboard clubs met.

The book club currently counts three members, each reading different books and not discussing them with one another. Maybe "club" is an overstatement for what is going on.
The podcast club, lead by Carl-Johan, met on deck after lunch. He tried to convert some of the crew to the world of podcasts (any All In fans out there?), but with mixed results - two of the crew moved below deck and demanded that no podcast should be played on the speakers downstairs.
The podcast club then morphed into the political debate club - we tried to solve American Swedish and Italian politics all at once. I think we had a bit too much on our plate to make any significant progress in fixing these countries.
Our cooking club was more of a success! Janne made pita bread for lunch, with white flour, rye flour, yeast, tomato paste, herbs, salt and water. These were an immediate hit and hopefully the busboy (CJ) learned something as well. The cooking club recruited Gustaf for the evening meeting and despite the huge swells and waves coming at us, he and Janne made some exceptional dinner, using a fish sauce we had prepared on land.
Speaking of fish, the fishing club is yet to meet onboard. There were preparations made in harbour, but no line has been put out yet. We did have a surprise visit from a flying fish that catapulted itself on deck and nearly went flying into the open window of Janne's cabin. The fish was promptly sent back to sea, where it rejoined the very large schools of flying fish we saw all day long.
The sleeping club has reported steady improvements in night sleep, maybe due to the crew getting used to routines, so napping was not a core activity yesterday.

Over and out,
Mavi
