Cassiopée W - Log for 08 March 2019 - 3rd Night at Sea

March 08 - 3è nuit à bord....

Le dernier douze heure a été bien mouvementé à bord de Cassiopée. Les vents n’étaient jamais assez fort ou constants pour pouvoir ajuster les voiles et laisser le bateau faire le reste du travail. Le courant, la houle et les vagues refusaient de collaborer et nous bombardaient de toutes directions rendant le mouvement du bateau inconfortable et projetant une partie du souper sur le plancher. En bref il nous a été impossible de trouver la bonne combinaison de voiles même après mille et un essais. Toute la journée a été passée à essayer des modèles mais rien ne fonctionnait. Nous allions toujours dans la mauvaise direction ou bien le manque de vent faisait claquer les voiles si fort que la résultante aurait pu endommager le gréement ou les voiles. En dernier recours, le capitaine a donc décidé d’utiliser le moteur afin de naviguer dans la direction désirée. Notre objectif présent est d’échapper à un système de basse pression qui s’installe dans notre périmètre et qui apportera de faibles vents nous empêchant ainsi de couvrir du milage.

The last twelve hours were very busy on board Cassiopée. The winds were never strong or constant enough to adjust the sails and let the boat do the rest of the work. The current, the swell and the waves refused to collaborate, and we were bombarding us from all directions making the movement of the boat uncomfortable, even projecting a part of dinner on the floor. All in all, it has been impossible to find the good combination for the sails even after a thousand tries. The whole day was spent trying different setups, however none of them worked. We were always going in the wrong direction, or the lack of wind made the sails flopped so hard that the result could have damaged the rigging, or the sails. At the last resort, the captain decided to use the engine to navigate in the desired direction. Our present objectve is to to escape a high pressure ridge that is taking place around our perimeter, and that will bring weak winds stopping us from covering milage.
