Air Power - Jan 6-7

Hello again. Its been about 6 weeks, since we finished ARC Caribean 1500. After spending 10 days on Tortola, BVI having a couple of machine bolts repaired, we pushed on to St John's, AVI (American Virgin Islands). We spent a wonderful evening visiting one of Jill's former A.F. classmates. We then sailed southeast for Guadaloupe, and met up with a sailing friend on Aladdin. After a couple of days eating French food, we followed Aladdin to Les Saints, part of this same island group, and ate more French food. We then sailed past a couple of islands and arrived in St Lucia for preparation for the World ARC.
Saturday's weather was a little on the damp side, as a good downpour added to the excitement of not colliding with the other 38 boats at the starting line. While waiting for the starting gun, we hid in the shadow of a 600 ft Club Med boat anchored in the bay. Once everyone took off, we popped out and put up our sails. Due to our late start, we missed out on the squalls, that the lead boats experienced that day. This is the first leg of many, that will take around the globe, ending in St Lucia in April 2019. Whether we do it in 15 months or 3 years, we'll decide that when we get to Australia, sometime in July.
Sunday, turned out to be just that. Nice and sunny with 15-20 kts of wind sending us on our first leg to Santa Marta, Columbia. Its roughly 800 nm (nautical miles). We have our head sail (gennaker), and hope it can stay up for the rest of this leg. Fishing wasn't so good today. Generally about 5-6 kts of speed is good for fishing, but our speed was a little sporadic, going from 5-10 kts. If not, its no big deal, we have plenty of canned tuna on board.
