Timshel - Galapagos to Marquesas Day 22 Southerly squall

Another gentle day, after early rain showers, sailing in the sunshine. Wished we could hoist the cruising chute, but probably just has well the halyard is still jammed in the block at the top of the mast, as without warning we suddenly got 22 knots of wind from the south. Had us running due north or even back NE until we could put away the pole, gybe the main, and found ourselves beam reaching, reefed right down, to make the course.

Many more of the World ARC boats made it the finish at Hiva Oa today, just a few left on the radio net plus the couple of extra boats we've picked up along the way. Australian Amaquora which was well south of us also got the squall but got 45 knots! We are doing 2 hr watches taking it in turns to hand steer, can't wait until we get Hydra fixed.
