Misto - Days 57-59: Doldrums give way to Trades

March 4 and 5 saw us still making our way South West through the ITCZ. Conditions were variable - the wind would blow a little, we'd sail a little and then the wind direction of strength would mean the iron jenny got turned on. March 5 was better and we only had one hour of motoring - but the wind direction was still not terribly helpful in making progress to Hiva Oa. The night of March 4 brought us almost 10 hours of on and off rain and squalls, together with some lightening. Other than that the sky was a dark, inky black.

Finally today, March 6, at 10 degrees south we have around 13 knots of wind from the south east and are heading more or less towards our destination The wind direction means we will likely have to put in a few long tacks and we are sailing with gennaker and main (and not the parasailor) as squalls are still forecast at least for today. Hopefully we have now picked up the trade winds.

Fish have been scarce across the fleet. Howard got a mahi bite today but lost it shortly afterwards.
