Exocet Strike - 16-17 February 2017

Yesterday was a beautifully sunny and hot day, no cloud and sufficient wind to drive us along very comfortably. During the evening and night it started to drop and by 0300 it was only giant 4 knots towards our waypoint. We are going to a Marina 6 miles up a river which gets quite narrow and windy, so we need to go up in daylight and hopefully with the tide with us.
So we furled the headsail and put the engine on. By 0800 however the wind suddenly picked up to 20 knots, so engine off and sail out. Doing 9 knots, that's better. Our ETA to the river entrance then reduced significantly. As I write this the wind is down to 13 knots and our speed is 7 knots, more than we would motor with so we are taking it while we can. ETA at the river entrance is 1500 which will do nicely.
Stella enjoyed her birthday yesterday, but when we arrive there will No doubt be opportunities for som alcoholic refreshments to help celebrate.
