Shalan - Day 6

18:07N 031:20W

0633UTC 27/11/16

Turf Turf Turf , this Shalan Shalan, over!

Progress on board the good ship Shalan has been good again today despite this mornings weather not behaving quite as expected, that said any frustration were swifty quelled by the now familiar cry of "Fish on" from Richie who with little difficulty soon landed us an excellent doraldo. This success was followed by two further fish as lunchtime approached and with them gutted, prepared and safely in the fridge a great sense of satisfaction soon came over all on board. It finally happened!!

As the afternoon progressed the cloudy skies of recent days gave way to brillaint sunshine and a steady 10-12 Knots of south, south easterly wind which allowed a few decent hours of sunbathing on the fordeck accompanied by Andys albeit strong audio selection "Ministry Sounds of the 80's". A new game also began this afternoon which involves one trying to attach one or preferably multiple cloths pegs to fellow crewmates whilst they are unawares. Oli soon emerged the victor having attached the entire box of pegs on to Andy or captain hindsight as hes

now known whilst he sunbathed, futher updates to follow. Our mutuel style of conversation has developed a distinctly south african flavour following the afternoon movie, Chappie, a treat of film with the added joy of a fine soundtrack by some south african rap outfit or other.

The sun set at 18.23 not before offering us all one of the most stunning sunsets in living memory and before long Gaeton cracked out the pans and set about the evening meal, a wonderful combination of homemade guacamole, citrus couscous and our catch of the day then followed. Some said it was one of the the best meals so far on board, I'd argue it was one of the best meals this year but two things are now certain, the ocean did provide for us and those rods are hitting the water at sunrise again tomorrow.

By 22.00 hrs the wind had eased and slowed us to a respectable 6 - 6.5 knots and as we and Shalan settled into the nights passage we witnessed some amazing shooting stars one of which was particularly notable for its brightness and duration, the sky was so incredibly clear it felt almost as though we had been encased in a huge fishbowl with stars and planets spanning the entire 360 degree horizon and with this the day came to a very satisfactory end.
