Enigma - Day 8 - still not at halfway house

We've been at sea a week now. No weavels, scurvy or mutiny to report. We are having to cope with light to none existent winds and have resorted to using the engine more than we'd like. We all want to get to St Lucia before Christmas.

2016.

The moonrise this morning was spectacular. A large orange smiley rose at the back of Enigma casting an ethereal moonlight across the water. Either we're being laughed at or things will be happy. Or, its just another moonrise.

I won't name names, but again i saw a yacht quite close to us, with tricolour, steaming lights and navigation lights all burning ! What happened to the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea ? Is it faulty electronics or ignorance ? Sorry but as a RYA Cruising Instructor this kind of thing does grate a little.

On the subject of odd things seen, we all observed a cargo vessel bound for Dakar come from the East westwards and the stop very close to a yacht to the north of us. The AIS signal showed they were very close and both vessels had stopped. After a period of time the cargo vessel turned round and went back eastwards, presumably to Dakar. Very interesting.

Well as you can tell from the tone, this was written in the wee hours. Hope its not too grumpy.

Fair winds
