Midnight Wanderer - Day 2 - Friday

The day dawned dreek and got worse. The crew decided that we should spend time visiting the Mary Rose museum, especially as they recently uncovered the hull and the s'board is now visible in all its glory. I had never been to see her before, but I do remember some 35 years ago, skiving from work to see the wreck lifted from the Solent. Amazing then and amazing now to see her and especially the artefacts and the human stories. We didn't (couldn't in the time available) see it all and therefore we'll be back to see it and the other exhibitions.

Of course, that wasn't the highlight of the day. No, that was the Skippers' Briefing. With signature performances from Jeremy, Sally and Roger, in addition, there there was a PowerPoint presentation, but as far as I could see, no-one fell asleep in a very crowded room. Rather exceptionally, I didn't as I do in most ppt presentations. Perhaps that was down to me counting the references to cups of tea! I think it was sixteen but I might have missed some.

So we are not going tomorrow and there is some optimism that we depart on Sunday. The jury is still out as far as I am concerned but we'll get the definitive answer tomorrow by text. As I write this, it's hard to imagine a storm blowing up in the nighttime, but me being me, I've taken down most of my flags and doubled my lines.

And what to do tomorrow? Continue being a grockle and see the Submarine Museum, or go shopping - there's a Musto outlet in Gun Wharf, or indeed, if the ferries are running we might go to Ryde. Thank God we're not holed up in Lymington!

It's a funny old world sometimes. My daughters were talking to Guy (he joins us in Jersey) when a skipper approached and talked of his teenage children. It then transpired that he was seeking to identify other teenagers. He asked Louise what age she is (early 30s) and then Rachel (mid 30s) and both took some delight in denying they were teenagers, and at the same time somewhat flattered that anyone might have thought they were teenagers! We must meet this boat!

And so we wait the text tomorrow. I understand that texting can be exciting, but can it be as exciting as this?

Stephen
