Widago - Azores-Europe Leg Day 8: Part Two

Bless his little heart.....
Get a load of this freeloadin', hitchhikin' stowaway. I think the term "bird brain" may need to be reviewed by Mr. Webster and his etymologists. Clearly, this little fella is no dummy. Guyon found him hiding in a perfect spot - he could have been there for days. We have these small alcoves in the forward cockpit where Peter the Pigeon was convalescing. In calmer, downwind sailing we might be hanging out forward, but we have been moving along at a pretty smart clip, somewhat close reaching, so no one is going forward. Except for Ahab. He was exercising his OCD prerogative, washing the exterior windows. And whaddaya know? He came across this little fella, all snugged up hiding out and hitching a ride. Poor Peter probably plunked down to rest his weary hollow bones. He wasn't the slightest bit phased by Ahab and his hose. After drinking a few handfuls of fresh water from Ahab, Peter set about freshening himself, fluffing up his feathers and such. We watching from inside the the salon with great delight, sending out handfuls of Pirate Booty Cheesy Poofs. Peter stuck around for an hour or so, sunning himself and filling up on fresh water before heading back out to sea.
As Peter took flight to depart, I noticed that he was indeed banded about each of his little pigeon ankles. Probably explains why he was so tame. I didn't get the chance to see if was carrying any messages for us. So if anyone did send us a care package via Peter the Carrier Pigeon, we regret to inform you that the package was either returned or lost at sea.
Please re-send.
-Ali
