Exocet Strike - Day 3 of our world ARC 2015

A great sail yesterday afternoon, then in the evening the winds started to build until by midnight it was approx 25 to 30 knots from pretty much dead astern, interesting. Since the boat was often rounding up in the waves we put a third reef in (for those not into sailing this is reduciing considerably the area in the big sail at the back). This immediately made the boat a lot more stable and didnt siginificantly reduce our speed. We have had between 1.5 and 2 knots of tide with us, joy, but later today we will probably have the tide against us as we turn a bit more south to go down the Columbian coast for approx 160 miles. We have just made our course correction to go to Santa Marta, but we are staying a bit further out than we need to since the forecasts indicate the wind going a bit north of east which won't help us if we go too direct.

The Duogen has been doing very well, we put the propellor on for higher speeds yesterday and immediately pick up less weed, result.

Lunch today was pork pies from the great food store in St Lucia, however they are made in Bradford, another great British export then.

That's all folks
John
