El Mundo - 08/12 - Well that was quite a day....and night...

We're all a bit tired this morning...not overly surprising though. The wind has been good all day and we swiotched between goose-winged and reaching as the wind shifted, which seems to the pattern. We did 175 miles in the last 24 hours and we are now 500 miles from St Lucia.

The fishing took on a new intensity, as there is a lot of weed about and the lines required clearing repeatedly. We caught a small tuna, then a reasonable sized Dorado, which changed our catering plans and we dined on Dorado fillets cooked with ginger, sesame oil, soy sauce, lime and chives, accompanied by Lyonaise potatoes. However, the big catch of the day was reeled in by Bob....and it was quite a fight. We brought in a beautiful Marlin, close enough to cut the line right by the lure to set him free again. In the final minutes of the fight the fight the 'Beastmaster' carbon rod even snapped in two. What an amazing experience!

We had been edging south for some days to avoid the worst of the weather....but not far enough apparently. In the early hours we were surrounded by banks of cloud with violent lightening and torrential rain, the wind changing direction constantly and radically. We seemed to be stuck, unable to move out of the storms trajectory, so we put on the engine for a couple of hours to clear the area, only to experience a patch of 25-35 knot winds for another hour. This morning...you'd never know...back to being a beautiful Carribbean day.

Lincy shared her 'songs of life' with us before dinner last night and very good it was too....we all remember embarassing ourselves at some point to the tune of 'Walk like an Eqyptian'!

This is the anniversary of the murder of John Lennon by Mark David Chapman in New York. It's also the day in 1660 when the first ever woman appeared on the London stage....as Desdemona in Othello.
