The ARC Europe fleet left Horta (Faial) to spend almost three days
on Terceira Island before heading to S. Miguel and get ready for the start of
leg 3.
This was an opportunity to visit the historic centre of
the island – Angra do Heroísmo, part of the UNESCO World Heritage through a
walking guided tour sponsored by the Azores Tourism. Also, part of the culture
of this island are the bull runnings that are held during this time of the year
in different parishes of the island. These street running’s goes back to 1622!
S. Miguel is the biggest island of the archipelago and
equally interesting. To start with this is the only place in Europe that
produces tea. Participants spent a half day away on a tour exploring the West
side of the Island.
Today is time for last preparations before the start, 10
June at 1200UTC, visiting the local market and provision, last minute laundry,
Skippers Briefing and a Farewell Cocktail taking place at the Clube Naval from
Ponta Delgada.
