A stop in Mid-Atlantic

The World ARC fleet got together at the St Helena Yacht Club during their 72hrs stopover on the mid-Atlantic island. The local members at the Club were superb hosts and helped put on a great programme for the crews visiting. Curry night and a Bring and Brie made part of the festivities in St Helena.

St. Helena Yacht Club also organised tours around the island where the highlights are Napoleon’s Tomb where he was initially laid to rest, following his incarceration and subsequent death on the island; the views of Jamestown from the top of Jacob’s Ladder, a 699 step staircase linking the ridge overlooking the town with the settlement itself; and nowadays the airport that is under some trial flights is also a highlight from the island.

Peter on Exody wrote 'Today Tuesday 19th, we climbed the 699 steps of Jacob's Ladder elevating us steeply at 45 degrees to about 200 metres for a great view of the town, the surrounding mountains and out over the calm blue sea towards South America. Someone kindly gave us a lift back down the zig zag road to the hotel where our essential internet tasks were completed with coffee and scones! David checked out from his three nights ashore, we did our final shop and slipped the mooring at 15.00.'

The World ARC fleet have now arrived in Salvador da Bahia buzzing with the second biggest Carnival from Brazil.
