Lexington - Captain Bob:2/11/2018. 25*. 57'. south. 6*. 41'east.

We are doing fair in light winds but calmer seas. We have 8-10 knots of wind and are doing about 5.5 to 6 knots of speed. It is overcast and mildly cool. We are just over half way. Wind is predicted to improve. We are in the pack.
It is hard to imagine how easy and nice we have it compared to 25-50 years ago. I do my watch while responding to email. I read books on my iPad. I have a chart plotter and GPS. When I get tired I have two shipmates to share watches. I am in no way comparable to sailors that did this sort of thing without my luxuries. Actually I think there is a contest to celebrate the anniversary of the Golden Globe race for solo circumnavigation without stopping. To make it interesting they are only allowing the tools available to the original sailors 50'years ago. Of the original group of about 12-15 only one completed the race I think. One turned around and went back to the Pacific. One faked his positions and never left the Atlantic. It was a motley group. If you are interested get the book, A VOYAGE FOR MAD MEN. It is a good read and a study of people and challenges.
May fair winds fill your sails with luxuries
Bob
