Ximera - Day ten - Tales and stories: Watch names

14∞10.12 N - 27∞30.48 W -->

Lots of sargasso weed floats in the ocean, surrounding us and playing with our fish lines. Jenny the gennaker is poled out for 36 hours of constant NE wind from 7 to 13 Knots.

Happy, relaxed days.

As sailing requires mininum concentration from us, we chat, we laugh, we invent tales and stories. Like this that will follow, born between Clare's and Michelle's nightwatch.

Because the watch between 3am and 5am is lovingly known as the "Dog Watch" we decided to name all the other watches, so here are our suggstions and the reasons for them.

01:00-03:00 Owl watch, as its for Night owls.
03:00-05:00 Dog watch, could this be related to letting sleeping dogs lie?
05:00-07:00 Cock watch, as this is when the cock would naturally crow ... stop sniggering!
07:00-09:00 Hen watch, as this is when we'd hope for Hen's eggs for breakfast
09:00-11:00 Dolphin watch, Well it's a good time to watch dolphin!!
11:00-13:00 Snake watch, this was requested by the boss, as its all the one's, Snake eyes!!
13:00-15:00 Mad dog watch... no relation to the dog, but more Noel Coward-ish: Mad dogs and Englishman out in the midday sun.
15:00-17:00 Lizard watch, well it's so warm we'd all be lounging like lizards in the sun.
17:00-19:00 Cat watch (this is even more tenuous) Tea time... mad hatters tea party... cheshire cat. Well it was 3 in the morning!
19:00-21:00 Pig watch, Supper time resembles Troughing down, eager to get the meal eaten and stowed away before the dead of night.
21:00-23:00 Squid watch, well its a good time to catch squid in the star-lit waters of the Atlantic.
23:00-01:00 Bat watch, not because only old bats do the shift, but more likely that the Vampires are out.

Another peaceful, quiet shift passed with more giggling and merriment from the Girls' Owl Watch.
