Majic-L - Day 8 - Majical Challenge

Lazy start to the day in Guernsey as we had knew we had a midday start, chance for a bit more last minute mooching around the harbour before the mass untying as we made ready for the off. Tried to finish the Guardian crossword between us and almost managed it. The sight of the group of ARC yachts all heading out together from Guernsey harbour was quite something. We enjoyed listening in to the conversation on the ARC channel along with the other boats and the comments from other ARC boats. Linda and Richard's son is a merchant seaman, has done his studying and passed his exams unlike the guy on the call who did seem a bit bitter to say the least. Got some good photos of other yachts but not unfortunately any Dolphins - or mermaids as reported! Combination of sailing and motoring again, but Tony made the sun come out when he put on his full wet weather kit and within 5 minutes was taking it off again. Managed to get on a buoy ok, then Linda broke out champagne and strawberries which we enjoyed in the sun before taking the dinghy over to shore and meeting up with everybody at the Divers pub . Spent an enjoyable couple of hours chatting, and were grateful to Martin from the South Steyne yacht for telling us about "The Georgian House" pub/restaurant in Alderney town high st (which was up the hill - we thought we were in the High St already! Ourselves and other boat crews from the ARC were in there - we thought up with the best fish & chips we had ever had. Trip back across the harbour in pitch blackness (lucky we had brought a torch) and the end to a very enjoyable day.
