Aislig Bheag - An Introduction to The Crew (In rhyme)

I must go down to the sea again
on a yacht called Aislig Bheag,
Seven aboard since Bermuda,
To the Azores on the second leg,
And all I ask is a gentle breeze,
Maybe 10-15 knots,
and a hearty meal,
and a steady wind,
and a crew awaiting rum tots.

I’ll introduce first John the skipper,
A salty old seadog indeed,
He rules his ship with a clear command,
Unless he spins up in his “heid”,
And all he asks is a peaceful night,
with the helmsman steady,
and a full sail,
and a good course,
and a great crew ready.

So back we go out to the sea again,
To meet the next in command,
Aiison’s found in the galley,
at the wheel, up the mast, cloth in hand,
And all she asks is a comfy bed,
and to cook in an upright position,
and a quiet sleep,
and a sweet dream,
and a working toilet to pish in!

So next up is Eilidh the youngest,
she recently got her degree,
But instead of a job with an income,
She decided to take to the sea,
and all she asks is a sturdy boat,
with the white sails shaking,
and a girl or guy in every port,
for a new dawn breaking.

If you go out to the sea again,
you might meet our cabin boy, Owen,
a lawyer from Oxford he may be,
But that isn’t where he is going,
Cos all he asks is a battered old van,
and a blog to the world he is giving,
and a fine wine,
and a suit to dine,
and a wife who is earning a living.

Now off we go to the sea again,
To magnificent Italy’s charm,
Banana hammock and flip-flops,
is certainly cause for alarm!
And all he asks is a classic guitar,
or a finely tuned piano,
and he’ll play a song,
and we’ll sing along,
a round of applause for Gaetano!

If you go out to the sea again
And you need some financial direction,
you could do with a nautical banker,
call on Michael who’s aim is perfection!
and all he asks is a friend who can cook,
and to help him prepare his creation,
and a good sauce,
and a fine taste,
as it surely will be his salvation.

Now in order to go to sea again,
With our skipper John feeling unsteady,
We turned to the world wide network,
and David was there at the ready!
Photographer, crew, paramedic,
Our Dave he has covered the lot,
But I wonder if all his adventures,
Prepared him for life on this yacht!

Thanks to all the crew who covered my watches all day long while I laboriously wrote this poem
