King's Legend - Was this a dream?

I had a dream last night, while crossing the ocean. I am on a submarine,
with a crew of eight. To a tropical destination we are heading, sharing the
burdens of our plight.

We lie in our bunk beds, quietly listening to the ocean. There is life on
the surface, way above our heads. It is hot and humid, and almost no air to
breath. We are resting to recover; the day ahead is almost there.

And than, something changes, nothing is the same; I hear water gushing, a
few inches from my head. There is a distant rumble, and urgent footsteps on
the deck. I hear the sounds of storm and rain approaching; and who knows
what lies ahead?

The sails are wildly flapping, like a war about to start. Is this our
sailing yacht or part of my submarine night?

Wildly I veer from left to right, hold on to a handrail, just getting up is
a fight. In darkness I try to reach a ladder, to peek into the night.
Everywhere there is water, I take it all in stride.

My mates are running wildly, bringing sails onto the deck. The surroundings
have disappeared in greyness, the wind is howling with all its might.

Lightning surrounds us; everywhere we look it is bright. It is somewhat
scary, this madness in disguise. We steer in complete darkness; our dials
tell us all we know. Stay in between the depressions, is our only hope to
get it right.

Our bones are cold and we shiver, but tea and soup keep our spirits high.
Soaking wet we wait forever, until daylight tells us more.

Is there hope after squally weather? I hold on to my handrail, until the
sun and sky reappear. Yes there is life after madness; after all we are
still here.

And than it is all quiet, as sudden as it all began. Just the waves to
remind us, of the anger that has been. But the war is not over; the sails
continue to explode. A salvo with every movement, like saying; take me away
from here.

Finally I retreat under water, to find my bunk bed and some sleep. But this
morning I woke up wondering, was this all a dream?

So long for now,
Gerhard
