Rhumb - Log day 8

The day dawned full of high hopes fulfilled when Pepe, our illustrious Raymarine Engineer appeared dockside with our new drive unit. On the down side though, the Dometic engineer after much coaxing eventually arrived and proceeded to take our cooker apart, but it became pretty obvious that we had more of a clue about how it didn't come apart than he. No screws, just rivets keeping the offending part well beyond reach. Anyway, after much huffing and puffing and scratching of heads and the afternoon marching on, we took the big decision to go without nice fresh bread and instructed him to put it all back together asap so we could make our getaway.

With much cheering and with gay abandon, Rhumb left the fueling berth at 16.15 and we headed west. A slow start on a course of 250 with very light southerlies, but as the evening went on the wind turned more northerly and picked up to a healthy 18 to 28, moving to over 30 when we experienced our first squall. Once through, we began our watch system of 2 hours on, 4 off, which seemed to work fine, although we all said that not much sleep happened.

Dinner was a healthy chicken casserole with rice and cabbage (thumbs up again Anne). A cracking moonlit sky to wile away the hours - so a much better day was appreciated all round.

Position at midnight N27 deg 39 min; W17 deg 21 min. distance to run 2655 (oh heck!)

Rhumb over - John, Brian and Ian.
