Easy Rider - Day 6 - Midshipman Neil

Loneliness of the long distance sailor.

You would think with 60 boats all heading for the same destination and leaving at the same time there would be plenty of company. Indeed there was plenty of friendly banter on the first few days as we remained in sight and VHF range but now 6 days into the crossing and coming up to half way there is not a ship in sight nor VHF contact, which means there is no one within 20 miles. We've all taken different guesses at which way the wind will blow or gone off route while fixing mechanical problems. Whatever the reason...we are alone except for the tenuous satellite link to the rest of the world. However some solitude is good for the soul!

A fairly quiet day with not much to report, it started with a sighting of a mysterious plane in the very early hours of the morning circling over a positiion 30 miles to our south for some 90 minutes.....was another competitor getting an emergency re-supply at sea...had they really run out of beer already? It ended on a rather odorous note when one of the tanks that holds the sewage refused to be pumped out....leaving us pondering how to empty a tank of sewage with no pump. But worry not dear Reader...some of the best minds on Easy Rider are wrestling with this problem....on the other hand that in itself may be plenty of reason to worry. Read tomorrows exciting installment on the battle of the sewage tank.

Everyone is well and doing their best to avoid sewwage and sun burn.
