World ARC 16/17 in Australia

28 July 2016

The World ARC fleet are currently at sea heading to Mackay, Australia

After a particularly fast passage the first few yachts of the World ARC fleet are now berthed in Mackay Marina and currently undergoing clearances with Australian Customs and Quarantine.

Aliena was first to arrive at 1500 followed by Solo and Kristal around 2000 and Paradise Found, Carango and Mearra Nieida during the night

The weather was particularly kind for the fleet that enjoyed good trade wind conditions with 15-20 knots south easterlies, expected to increase up to 25 knots for the next few days.

Arriving in Australia will also mark a significant achievement for the fleet as they will then have sailed the entire Pacific Ocean from East to West; a huge achievement.

A busy program has been planned for Mackay, starting with a Welcome Drink and Dinner at the Mackay Yacht Club  this Friday night, followed by a Tour to Cape Hillsborough to see Wallabies on the beach and a Dinner and Prizegiving for Leg 7.

Just before the start of the free cruising period, skippers will attend an interesting Mackay to Darwin Cruising Talk with Bob Critchley a local cruising expert.
