Skyelark of London - Milestones mean meals

It's the final approach, or at least that is how it feels - despite there
still being 700 miles to go. That's more than a Fastnet race, a Sydney to
Hobart or a lap of Ireland! However the nautical milestones are crashing
down - 1/2 way (Roast Duck, German cabbage and roast potatoes) , 2/3rd
(glass of wine) , 1000 miles to go (Steak, Chips and Peach crumble and
custard), final 1/4 (steak and eggs for breakfast) and the next big one
will be when we are within fuel range which is fast approaching, and this
will be celebrated with a very long and very hot shower as we will no longer
need to conserve fuel (and thereby water) in case of a prolonged calm and
quite possibly a Gin and Tonic to cool down.

One notable lack from our menu is fish, we have only caught one mahi mahi
which is a stark change from our usual successes, and our last Pacific leg
in 2014. We are not sure if it's because of the number of Japanese factory
ships we have seen or a result of 2 strong El Nino years where the weather
and currents in the Pacific get disrupted. It is not just us , but most of
the fleet. Before we departed, World ARC asked us to guess how many fish
would be caught by the fleet on this leg, I guessed 66, based on a large
number of double hander's not wanting quite so much, but I figured on a good
10 for us! Well we won't win that prize!

The wonderful trade winds continue to blow us swiftly in the right direction
and although moderating over the next few days it looks like we will be able
to sail most of the rest of the way to our destination and the challenge for
us now is to find a narrow band of favourable equatorial current that will
give us a turbo boost of up to 1.5 knots and get us in the bar ahead of the
competition. Motoring and TCF aside, it's been neck and neck between us
and Tashy for 2nd place as of this morning just we were just 200 meters
ahead, after 2490 miles.
