Skyelark of London - Colombia

Colombia has been a new stop for Skyelark, and one we have very much
enjoyed. Santa Marta is a lovely historic town with all the hustle, bustle ,
colour and charm you would expect from South America. Streets are lined
with vendors, selling beautiful produce, little stands that can fix anything
from broken shoes to an I-pod screen and of course street food. Steak,
chicken and sausages sold hot on sticks, ceviche and seafood cocktails and
fresh juices -Pineapple, Limes, Orange, Mango - all for less than a dollar
and all amazingly tasty. In amongst these the city thrives, and outside of
the historic quarter there is a modern town with everything you can need.

As a crew we have spent our nights in the charming city squares (mostly
marvelling at the price and quality of fillet steak) and at some of the
splendid functions put on by the WorldARC - including a Sunday roast - with
guess what - fillet steak!. By day we have been exploring, and Santa Marta
is surrounded by national parks to the North and the Sierra Nevada mountain
range to the East. Outside of the city the landscape and pace of life change
dramatically and it is not long until you are in stunning mountainous
countryside. Em and I took full advantage of this and have done 3 days of
trekking in the hills, we visited an abandoned historic village, coffee
plantations, waterfalls (icy cold) and gorgeous beaches and have covered
some 60km on foot.

It is time to say good bye Colombia.. Destination San Blas!
