Beltana II - Day Forteeen (14)

Last 24 hours we made 163 NM and 6.79 knots so we are going well now, racing to the finish line 1400Nm away. Paul has promised us a almb roast tonight to mark the crossing of the 38 degree west mark a miles stone – about half way just looking at the east west meridians.
All the fishing lines are set, but nothing yet today.  It is really funny to watch Johnny react to the load call “FISH FISH” which we all call out when the reel goes off with a strike. No matter where he is, even sleeping in his bunk, he comes racing up the companionway sleepy eyed and springs to the rod to reel it in!  How do you make a dentist move faster that Usan Bolt – Shout “FISH”.  Today Jono is going with a deep sea squid, Paul has a little spoon on the is spinning beautifully behind the classic Mackay trawling line that he brought with him ( thank you Andrew Ebb, and the trace from great nephew Paully), and Johnny has a big fish looking lure that is trawling 100 metres or so behind.
Weather wise the wind is great – just north of east, and pretty consistent all night at 15-18 knots – sun wise it is a bit grey and dull, full cloud (which gives us some sun breaks), and a grey sea too – give me a sunny day any day.
Another quote “why are all the electrical tools in the fishing box – I can never find anything” JVC
Another quote “Enough with the rinse cycles Graham” as yet another shower of rain soaks us all while Graham’s washing was hanging on the rails.
Quiet day today – Graham has put all the fitting back on the weather boards and the flag pole, a bit of cooking will happen later this afternoon, and if the wind lightens off again we will fly the Kite againi to keep the average speed up.
All Good – Jono
