Bluewaft - Bluewaft Log Day 10

Bluewaft Log Day 10
Tuesday 29 November 2016
20°14’.124N 033°59’.452W
Wind at last! We’ve been able to sail most of the night. Initially
through a line of squalls and then this morning with a solid 12kts of wind
from the West. Hopefully it will stablize and veer, but we’re happy to
have some time with the engines off. The down side is the current has now
dropped (and even working against us for some of the time.)
Yesterday the guys took advantage of the dead calm and went for a swim in
6km of water. The water was surprisingly warm (26°C). No bites even then!
James restored the ‘fishing honour’ and caught three (very) small bonito.
We BBQ’d them and had them with rice and salad.
This morning I was woken to the shudder of the engine. We’d managed to
pick up a large rope around the propeller. The wind died and we hove to.
Alex dove the propeller but by that time the rope had worked itself free.
Marcus is wondering why all the ‘action’ happens on his watch (rather than
the dog watch (2am shift) that James. I pointed out that at least he’d
finally caught something….
This morning we had a couple of visitors: a pair of egrets. Igor arrived
first. Had a go at our fishing lines and then decided it was better to sit
on the deck. Ingrid arrived shortly later. So far they are enjoying the
ride, and we have enough food to avoid the temptation of Egret ‘coq au
vin’. We’ll see!
Cheers
