Bluewaft - Bluewaft Log Day 6

Bluewaft Log Day 6
Friday 25 November 2016
21°24’.562N 024°58’.367W
An eventful night of sailing. We’d been sailing pretty well on a beam
reach. The wind had been dropping and the watch had called me to the helm
before starting the engine. I then noticed the clew of the sail had come
lose from the boom. (Hence the reduction in speed). I fixed a temporary
loop on the clew with a view to waiting until morning to climb into the
boom and assess the damage. We used the first reef line to take the weight
of the boom and centred the traveller so the boom was centred over the
bimini and started the engine. An hour later I was woken again: the
traveller block had parted. We centred the boom again and replaced the
block and reinstated the traveller. James then climbed into the boom and
reattached the clew. The dolphins swum by for a view (and a bit of a
laugh). Good as new!
Back under sail we decided to deploy the gennaker. Colours up at last!
Making 7kts in 11kts of wind!
Fishing wise we finally landed a decent sized Mahi Mahi – so fish for
dinner tonight! James is going to try his hand at a poisson cru and then
BBQ the rest…
Happy sails!
