Enigma - Day 2 - The Wacky Races

Subject: Day 2 - The Wacky Races
Our 2,000 mile drag race, like everyone else's was challenged by light variable winds during the night. We were surrounded by boats and the pattern has only just started to spread out as the boats race westward. During the darkness we saw a range of combinations of lights being burned by some yachts - tricolours with navigation lights, tricolours with steaming lights, and, the prize combination - navigation lights, steaming lights and anchor light. Mind you, its better than no lights at all I suppose.

Today has been simply lovely. The wind has steadily filled in to around 9-10 knots - more than enough for us to better 6 knots with the Simbo rig. Life on board is settling into a routine. Our 3 hour on, 9 off watch system seems to be working well and we are all trying to remember the house keeping tasks that go along with that. The water maker is working well although we have a niggling issue with the batteries. Apart from that the boat is functioning well.

Tonight we are having lasagne after making the fabulous depiction to empty the freezer of food. This is just fantastic. We have so much delightful stuff in there from ice cream to steaks. The next few days will be heavenly.

We almost saw some whales today - just catching a spout or two and the odd low profile in the water. Allan was fixing the AIS at the time and so missed the excitement. Tomorrow is another day. And as he said, "there's plenty more whales in the sea !"

We all feel we're making progress at last.

Paul, Diane, Viv and Allan.....apparently the whale was called Dave.
