Chance Encounter - Chance encounter -first 24 hours!

Sailing 4.2knots in 6.3kts of wind, bearing 245 degrees
Just over 24 hours into our voyage we are all alive and well. We were one of the first boats over the line and battled with the big cruisers most of the day yesterday, and sat second in our division, 40-something overall, by nightfall. Light winds and chop overnight followed by more light winds today, but we snuck into the lead around noon and have been playing leapfrog with second place (our sister-ship, an Élan 43 called "Frigg" from Norway) the rest of the day...she is currently directly astern following us and if they come much closer we are liable to catch them with our fishing gear!
Some wildlife around but not much...a few birds, a couple of fish rolling around and a pair of small whales. Getting used to boat and watch systems. the fleet has split in two with a large bunch working south towards the east-to-west trade winds, and another bunch choosing to go more directly west under the Canary Islands. Both are working to miss a light wind hole expected to develop next weekend. Hopefully the first patch of decent breeze scheduled to arrive tonight.
