Timshel - Log Day 5 Oh Dear! Friday 13

Days run 1300 - 1300: only 101 miles. And it was all going so well, but today all we did was add to Bob (the Builder)s list of things to fix in Cape Verde. Very peaceful and sedate progress overnight, didn't see any other boats. Tried looking at the generator, nothing obvious we can fix, the engine runs OK but does not give any charge so can't use the watermaker either. Also found one of the loops at tack of mainsail has chafed through, luckily there were two but will need to sew that somehow, flexible gas hose by cooker is also chafing lucky we noticed and tackline on cruising chute caught on anchor pin and bent it - again, that thing is fated. The Hydrovane self steering bolts have loosened and will need tightening at the pitstop. We thought we were making good progress, but unfortunately not enough westing, perfect course for the Cape Verde island of Sal, but we are going to Sao Vicente. So we gybed this morning and tried setting the cruising chute, very pretty but not a very restful sail and difficult to set up the hydrovane steering - can't cope with gusts, and we probably look like we're going backwards as best course we can make is 285 deg. And it rained!!
