Luna Quest - Tuesday, 13th October, 2015

Position: 20.10S 60.33E

Port Louis - Mauritius

Distance made good: 208 logged miles since noon yesterday

The fresh breeze held throughout the night and morning. Some very large seas with toppling crests chased Luna Quest in her wild run for Mauritius under full goose winged sail. We were determined to make landfall before dark. When land was sighted at around 9am, our spirits rose as it was quite likely that we would be in in the afternoon. The waves and swell were impressive; each time Luna Quest was overtaken by one of the monsters, she would be carried along by them for a while until the swell tired of her, dropped her in its wake. Then Luna Quest would fall back into the trough left behind by the surging swell and our sight of land would disappear. Once we made the narrow passage between Mauritius and a small satellite island to its north, the seas calmed and good speeds were achieved on smooth water. A few hours later, down the west side of the island, we spotted the harbour entrance and made fast at 2.30pm.

The dock where we have made fast is specifically for visiting yachts and our little World Arc fleet will have occupied it completely once the last three boats are in over the next day or two.
