Musketeer of Cowes - Musketeer blog

8th December & Making Progress!
We’ve had a great couple of days flying the kite, Unfortunately, the big blue sail is a bit like Goldilocks and does not like too much wind, nor too little wind, or a sea state that’s too choppy, everything has to be just right! Finally we got a smile from Nigel when the conditions were perfect and the kite flew, pulling Musketeer at pace through the sea.
There’s much to do to get the kite (sail) safely in the air; sheets (rope for the non sailors) to be run and check, halyard (another name for a rope) to attach and check, sheets put through blocks and on winches ready to ease and wind in. Then it’s action stations; everyone with their part to play! We’re getting better at problem solving before it goes wrong, and faster too!
This morning we crossed our imaginary halfway line across the Atlantic, so we toasted the sunrise with champagne served in style!
We also passed the 1000 miles to go count on the instruments and are now in three figures! Counting down the miles to Rodney Bay. Hoping we don’t run out of milk before we get there… otherwise black tea it is (definitely won’t run out of tea bags; I have a secret stash!
We’re starting to have meals with less fresh veg! Last of the cabbage yesterday, which made a delicious coleslaw. It went well with our gourmet burgers! I made a Chicken Rogan Josh with rice and freshly made naan the previous day! The naan were so easy to make using flour & Greek yogurt and were delicious.
The guys humoured me tonight and let me have some Christmas music on at dinner time! It was surreal, sailing along in the blazing sunshine listening to ‘All I Want for Christmas…’! Hope you’re all enjoying the seasonal build up too! I’m missing mince pies at the moment… and of course, my loved ones!
