Endeavour of Cork - Day 13 - Tuesday 29th Nvoember

The heat. Oh My God, the fecking heat.

I'm sorry, I know it's December and miserable and minus-something back in Ireland, but I'm just out of my sweatbox bed, and I have to give out about the heat.

It's like trying to operate and live and sleep in a low-level steam room that's never turned off (while sleeping on an electric blanket beside a radiator).

I now get why my favourite dog, a big, butch, handsome retriever (Hi Otto!!!) after a period of over-exertion lies flat on his back with the four paws stretched out to the four corners of the sky. A most inelegant pose, but effective for cooling down. I'm tempted a lot lately to adopt the same pose, however inappropriate - but a) there isn't room in a 2-foot wide centrally heated coffin, and b) there's no fresh air anyhow, so no point.

So we just mop ourselves down as best we can with baby wipes, a drop or two of fresh water (water tank gauge still showing full so we have absolutely no clue how much of the tank we've used, so still on full conservation measures), and hope that the PJs and bed have dried out in the heat by the time we next climb into them. Charming, isn't it? Oh the elegant life of the recreational sailor.....

The engine went off at 4.30am I'm told - I heard it, and while thankful for the silence, all it did was reduce the draught through the boat and make it even hotter.

However, on the upside, the miles to go have dropped below 500, and it looks like we might get another full day's sailing in today if the wind we have now keeps up (we got a full 12 hours out of the spinny yesterday). We really are starting to feel like we're getting there!!

I promise I'll be back later having cooled down a bit (hopefully) with a more cheerful post!

From a VERY hot and bothered Endeavour - over and out.
