Adagio - Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

So, this is the reason we sail, or dreamed about sailing, or hoped for in an Atlantic crossing. All of the above.
Beautiful skies, light but sail-able winds and seas that are smoothing out.

We certainly aren't going to set any speed records today. With 6 to 10 knots of wind we are happily moving along at around 5 knots or so enjoying to cool, drier air and watching the dolphins come alongside. I am pleased when the dolphins show up, even if it is only for a short time. A while ago I would have scrambled for the camera to try to capture their frolicking for posterity, but now I tend to just stop whatever I'm doing and sit and watch them. We often cheer them on and call to them, pretty sure they can hear us, but they aren't very talkative.

Last night I started my watch just before sunset. Robin and I watched as the orange, then red sunlight dissipated through the far off clouds and were especially stunned by the high altitude cirrus "horse tail" clouds as the changed from white to yellow to orange to red and finally to grey as the sun set. About 45 minutes later I watched the reddest moonrise I have seen in recent memory. A beautiful finish to a fine day.

Later in the evening we finally had some breeze pick up and were able to make some progress toward the Northeast until sunrise. After sunrise we hoisted the light wind gennaker and are still being pulled along under 7 to 10 knots of southwesterly breeze.

We officially crossed the halfway point overnight and crossed the 1,000 nautical mile traveled just before dinner time this evening. Yes, there was ice cream involved :)

Everyone is in good spirits and enjoying the nice, albeit slow, ride across the Atlantic. Our forecast is for much of the same for the next day or so.

Yeah, it'll do just fine!
