Pentagram - Welcome Home

Day 3 (Wednesday 17th May), at sea. Heading direct to Niue with Barbara Jean. Position at 2100 GMT : 17 17' South, 155 41'West, Wind : 10-15 kts Southerly

It has been a long time coming after 3 months cruising the Society Islands & the 7 months prior spent traveling, visiting with friends & family in Australia & New Zealand. It feels good to get moving again & on to pastures new with a little sadness too, to say goodbye to so many lovely people we have met on the islands. Niue is a beautiful island though with warm, generous & welcoming people, a trait of all the South Pacific Islanders we have found in our time here. It will be good to return for a few days.

It has been fantastic meeting up with this years entries to the rally, albeit that we are struggling with names a wee bit with so many boats. I think we'll have it nailed by the time we leave the rally in Australia!

Although we have had a great time & seen so many amazing things, it was so good to get back home to Pentagram after abandoning her in the South Pacific last May to help another WARC 2015/16 catamaran get back home to Australia. Home is where the heart is as they say. It has been the longest period of time I have lived on land for the last 22 years & Andy 7! So good to finally get rid of those land legs, land living isn't all it's cracked up to be you know.

After having to motor for around 40 hours after leaving Raiatea, we are sailing! A beautiful day &, at the risk of jinxing things, perfect sailing conditions at present. It is nice to get back in to the swing of distance cruising again after the novelty of day sailing around the islands for so long.

We invested in a Waeco portable freezer in Australia & so are enjoying having the luxury & convenience of having one for the first time since I left home at the tender age of 19! It does a very good job of chilling the beer down quickly too! When we returned to Pentagram we fitted a second hand Watt&Sea water generator (bought from one of last years entries who upgraded to a larger model), which is having it's first proper outing & seems to be worth its weight in gold & is replacing the extra power we are using due to the new freezer.

Fingers crossed all continues as well as it's started
