Keeping busy in Nanny Cay

Yesterday was demonstration day at Nanny Cay Marina. Flares and liferafts demonstrations took place all morning with a good attendance of participants and local bystanders. Although definitely not full safety courses, which are recommended before the start of the rally, these are refreshers to remind everyone of some of the key points when having to use flares and liferafts.

Our event manager and head safety guy, Mark Burton, closed a little area off at the end of the breakwater for the flare demonstration. Both Mark and Jake explained the safe way to set off the flares and actually set some off before the line of participants wanting to try had their chance.

The second part of the morning continued at the swimming pool by the beach. The liferaft demonstration involved the launching and inflating of a liferaft, the inflation of a life jacket and grab bags, with participants having the chance of trying the high calorie biscuits and plastic stored water. The liferaft was launched in the pool had everyone had a chance to climb into it and realise how small and uncomfortable it felt even though they were in a completely flat swimming pool on a radiant sunny day.

Crews relaxed by the beach and pool during the hot and sunny day with sundowners at the beach bar in the evening. Some serious volleyball was played and the crews from different boats connected with each other over many rum punches, catching up from having sailed in previous rallies or just talking about their sailing experiences.

This morning the first full bus for provisioning left Nanny Cay at 1000, as departure date approaches the provisioning of fresh fruit and veg is now what most of the yachts are focusing on.

This evening the farewell dinner will be taking place on the beach under the marquee, where participants will have a relaxing evening with each other surrounded by tiki lamps as the sun sets. The last dinner ashore all together before their departure to Bermuda.
