Mauritius like a taste of the Indian Ocean



Today all the World ARC participants went on a bus tour taking them North of the Island of Mauritius stopping at the Botanical Garden, elected the 03rd most beautiful Botanical Garden in the World, build in 1719 with 85 different varieties of Palm trees over 37 hectares also world famous for its long pond of giant water lilies.

  

After discovering all the varieties of different plants and trees, participants went visiting a sugar museum and learn about the process of making rum as well as about the sugar cane industry here in Mauritius. After a busy morning participants stopped for a lunch break, enjoying some typical Mauritius traditional food.

  

Finally on their way back to the Caudan participants visited Chateau de La Bourdonnais and learn about the heritage left by the French when they started to develop maritime business with Mauritius, building the harbour of Port-Louis to facilitate trade with France. After the visit participants got the opportunity to taste the rum directly made at the Castle and bought some bottles reminding them the taste of the Caribbean they left nearly 1 year ago.  

  


Tonight will be given the Prize giving ceremony and reception organized and sponsored by the MTPA and le Caudan Waterfront, at this occas]on all the participants will be gather together after having sailed over 3500NM across the Indian Ocean since they left Australia at the end of August and will received some awards for the last Leg sailed from Cocos Keeling to here. 

To mark the end of a busy but successful week tomorrow will be given the skipper’s briefing for Leg 12 from Mauritius to Reunion as well as Leg 14 taking the fleet from Reunion to Richard’s Bay, skipper’s will received all the information they need to plan their passage from Mauritius to South Africa leaving on Thursday 1400LT for le Port in La Reunion, shortest leg of their round the world navigation with only 132NM to get there.
