Welcome to Mauritius !

Yesterday marked another milestone in the World ARC 2015-16 fleets circumnavigation as yacht ‘Allegro’ a Trintella 45 skippered by Luis Adao arrived in Port Louis, Mauritius to a very warm welcome. Fog horns, fresh fruit, rum and even live music awaited Allegro as they berthed at the Cauden Basin, the home for the fleet for the next week.

“We were welcomed by the fleet - in the traditional way with foghorns blaring.  World ARC yellowshirts brought us a tot of local rum and a most welcome fruit basket.” - Exody

The Indian Ocean crossing from their previous destination of Cocos (Keeling) Islands has reportedly been “one of the best sailing legs of the entire rally” commented Casper, skipper of Aretha. With a near constant 15-20 knots of wind for the duration of the passage and swells which were relatively comfortable in comparison to previous years has made for an enjoyable passage for all. Supported by the friendly staff at the Cauden Basin, the fleet are berthed in a central location with almost all they require within easy walking distance. A contrast to the remoteness experienced in Indonesia.

Now the fleet have arrived, they have one week to enjoy the sites of Mauritius before departing to La Reunion next Thursday which will be the shortest leg of their circumnavigation. With support from the Mauritius Tourist Promotion Authority, crews will enjoy a tour of the island on Monday exploring the importance and major export of Mauritius, sugar cane. Tonight, Le Suffren hotel are hosting their weekly Happy Hour (1800-0200) which gives the first chance for crews to be together in almost three weeks.
