Time Out - Day 4 Bermuda to Azores

Day 4 : After a period of acclimatization, everybody has found their sea legs, and are at home on the boat. This has been helped by a calmer sea the last 24 hours, and a more predictable weather pattern. With varying winds of between 12kt and 20kt, we keep a reef in the mainsail, and reef occasionally the Genoa, not strictly necessary as the Lagoon can handle much stronger winds with all its full sails up, but it gives us a margin of error and allows everybody to sleep better. Even reefed down, we manage to average 7/8 kt, which isn’t bad at all. We starting to put some distance between us and Bermuda having sailed over 400nm, currently on a direct course to the Azures.

Cooking has resumed, with a nice Focaccia last night, followed by Lentils+Sausages, and tonight it’s Lasagna, with 5 French nationals on the boat, we need to make sure everybody is well fed :-)

Fishing, or I should say Fish, are non-existence, we try whenever the boat speed drops to a reasonable level, but with little success. We don’t see any flying fish either, and very few birds, so it looks like there is an absence of marin life in this region. A shame because we had high expectations! Unfortunately we can’t read the blogs of the other boats in the Arc, so we don’t know if others are having better success.

We are looking forward to a pretty calm, low stress night, before the Atlantic weather starts picking up again, it should bring stronger winds, and faster sailing for the next couple of days.
