Rubicon IV - On the way to Santa Marta. post ; 4

January 14, 2019
I’ve made some friends on the ARC, Eva, Daisy, Ivory and Lucia. We boat-hopped together in the marina for the rest of the time there in St. Lucia. A few days back, we left the marina for our first official ARC sail, St. Lucia to Santa Marta, Colombia. So far we’ve caught two fish, a mahimahi and yellowfin tuna that our crew, a man named Glenn, artfully carved. I helped my mom with her watch for a while before going to bed

The next day

Looking back, there wasn’t enough in my blog yesterday to post it. So here are some nitty-gritty notes about the wind, waves, sails etc.

So far we’ve been underway for about three 24-hour periods. In short, three days and three nights. The waves are ‘confused’ or hitting the hull ( side of the boat ) from two different directions. So a constant side-to-side roll is active. This might be a shock to some but the internet is one of the things you can’t get unless you use data. I’m finding it harder and harder to keep myself entertained so I’m fiddling around with iMovie and other video editing systems as I don’t really know how to edit videos. We are going downwind, or the wind is behind us, so we don’t need to tack ( change the side the sail is on, gives you a second of a lightweight feeling ) every five minutes. In my opinion, I think that downwind sailing makes your boat more affected by the waves, hence the massive roll that we are experiencing. We have done a tiny amount of schoolwork. So now we have to wait for another couple days until we get to Santa Marta.
