Air Power - Feb 6

After a 7 hour motor, sail, motor sail and then motor, we arrived in the Las Perlas Islands. They were named after the pearls the local inhabitants adorned themselves with. There is more to the story, so feel free to google it. As usual, internet is a commodity beyond our reach. We're currently anchored on the south side of Contadora. It is protected from the waves, and we get enough wind coming through the hatches to keep the boat quite comfortable. There are a few boats from the fleet with us, so this is a good time to have the neighbors over for a "Sundowner". (sharing a cocktail while the sun goes down). I like it when there are just a few other couples. It's makes it easy to hold a conversation without being drowned out.

We hiked around the island yesterday, saw on land, pretty much what we saw from the water coming in. Had lunch at the hotel we are anchored off of and came back to the boat to clean the bottom. We make it a point, to not over achieve in any day. If we feel like we are accomplishing too much, we bring it back a notch, by taking a nap, paddling around in the kayaky, or just reading a book.

With the 5 meter tides, it can be a little of a challenge beaching the dinghy or the kayak. Yesterday, we took the dinghy in during low tide. I dropped Jill and our neighbors off on the beach and motored out to a buoy. After tying off, I waded in in waste deep water. When we were done exploring and having lunch, I had to swim to the buoy. This morning, Jill and I took the kayak to the beach during high tide. I knew it would be a breeze to drag the kayak up to the hotel and back down to the water, when the tide went back out. We rode a small wave in like an arrow. Once the bow struck the sand, the wash caught the stern of the kayak and sent it sideways. So much for staying dry, when going for breakfast.
