Air Power - Jan 18

We spent 4 fun days in Santa Marta, Columbia. A tour of South America's oldest continuous city, Simon Bolivar's (The Great Liberator) hacienda and gardens, and a coffee plantation up in the mountains. This place is definitely worth a visit. We had some minor sowing done on the gennaker, too bad the bill wasn't minor.
As to be expected, the starting line for the completion of Leg 2 of this journey (San Blas Islands, Panama), provided us with the motivation to stay in the back, with our sails down, until everyone left. Its less than 300 NM to our destination, so just a couple of nights under sail. Hopefully, we'll find a quiet anchorage near a small island, so we can scrub the bottom of the boat, in preperation for our Galapagos arrival. We understand they will send divers to inspect our bottom, and if it is not clean enough, we have to go 50 miles off-shore to do it ourselves, or pay some one.
I was reading a little about the San Blas in one of our monthly Commodore Bulletins (newsletter). It mentioned something very briefly about saltwater crocodiles inhabiting this part of the Caribbean. Maybe paying someone isn't such a bad idea.
