Laura Dawn - Pacific Log 10: She's got another hole in her!

So we headed north overnight and made it to 11 degrees south, a mixed night of squalls, low VMG (velocity made good) and wind shifts, I think we only averaged about 100 miles in the 24 hours run. On a brighter note, we are now heading south again making 6-7 knots VMG with a full main sail and full genoa sailing 150 degrees to the wind. The wind speed has picked up to about 17knots and forecast to increase steadily over the next 48 hours.

We will probably continue on this course (approx 250 degrees) for the next few days, we still have 1110 miles to go. As day break happened at about 8:00am this morning we decided to put the asymetric back up, we had 12-13 knots of wind and decided it was time for her to fly again! Sadly we only lasted a few hours before she blew another hole :( Some acrobatics and patching while it was flying hanging off the bow sprit, we managed to patch her up again and she held up for a good few hours extra, I hope we have enough repair tape to last the rest of the journey!

Following our upward trend LD also aced the Owl LD quiz today scoring a massive 2 against Owl who scored 1 - totals now stand 17 LD and 16.5 Owl - LD leading for the first time! The bonus question today was how many sausages do we have left on board... LD has 15 and Owl 6 :) Although I think we both had sausages for dinner with onion gravy mmm it was very tasty!

The SSB Net is going well and we are talking with all of the other boats every morning, especially our new Italian friends on board Ocean Bird, belissima, grazie, grazie, Ciao! They seem to be struggling with getting weather reports and they have promised to cook some fine Italian food for us :)
