Albatross - YB Connect Message from Fernando Assens

Dec 3 - 14th Day at Sea

All is well. We are 1,161 miles from St Lucia, and Las Palmas is 1,533 miles behind us.

Since yesterday at 8:00pm, we have been sailing in 8-12 knot winds coming from 60°-70°. In the afternoon the wind started to clock, and is now an easterly, coming from 90°. Our heading is 235°-240°. We are sailing conservatively and have a full main and half the jib.

We continue to see flying fish jump out of the water and, once or twice a day, one jumps into the boat. They are strange looking creatures, with a full set of wings. We don't believe they will be as tasty as Mahi-Mahi and are throwing them back to the sea. Today another Mahi caught the line, but got away before we could get him into the boat. It looks like we will be eating meat today!

We just run out of butane on the first bottle. It looks like a bottle lasts for 14 days with a crew of 6. We have only two, it's good it happened after we had passed the mid-trip mark.

We got the latest route from Commander, and the word "St Lucia" appeared for the first time on it! That's a good sign. We are probably 9-10 days away from land.

Today for lunch we had morcilla (blood sausage) and for dinner we had beef steak from Uruguay, with padrón peppers, and cuscus with pine-nuts and raisins. The beef was a great find in Las Palmas. It's vacuum packed and lasts for months in the fridge.
