Midnight Wanderer - Days 8 & early 9 - Friday and Sunday am.

Bought the oil, as we anticipated that it would be another motor sail. The whole trip has encompassed about half an hours sailing (!), so just as well our tonker is in tip top condition.
Skippers' Briefing, accompanied by coffee and biscuits provided by the marina staff, revealed that the fleet was splitting with some going to Lymington, some up the Hamble, and some to Haslar for the lunch and prize giving.

Guy Malpas arrived from Portsmouth, having had a very early start, and he was a welcome sight. Breakfast, followed by a boat walk around, followed by lunch and off we departed at 1510. Main up in the outer harbour, but no genoa and we motored on, and on. No wind and then mid channel it turned southerly, peaking at 25 knots as it came over the stern port quarter. And still we motored on. Picked up St. Catherine's lighthouse, and made our way towards Portsmouth. So many lights. I sail these waters a lot in daylight, but nighttime is very confusing.

Suffice it to say, we picked up the entrance, made Haslar, and then reviewed the YB Race Tracker. Interesting to see that one boat appeared to be heading for South Wales and the other making good progress on the M4!

Overall, it has been an interesting 9 days, at times frustrating due to the Gods, exhilarating because of the passages, and very funny as jokes were shared with others we had just met some eight days previously. Thanks from Midnight Wanderer to all at wcc, and to Roger - we enjoyed it but will also ensure that the survey form is returned!

Smooth seas never did make a skilled sailor.
